"Welcome home"
"Feel at home"
"Charity begins at home"
"Home is where the heart is"
These are some of the many things we say about home, and when we do, we seem to assume that we all have the same understanding of what 'home' means.
So, what does home mean? Does it have the same meaning for one person as it does for another? Chances are that it doesn't. We all have our own unique sense of what home means to us.
Have you ever stopped to think about what home means to you, and wondered what it might mean for someone else?
Let's explore the meaning of Home from a slightly different perspective.
Think of home as a place you love above all others, a place where you feel at ease and at peace, where you are loved and accepted unconditionally, a place which supports and nourishes your hopes and dreams.
Now, think of your heart as a home. Do you feel at home in your heart? Do you feel at peace, loved and accepted, nourished and supported, in your heart-home? The feelings and emotions you harbour in your heart, what kind of home are they creating? Does your heart offer you a home you want and choose to live in? If not, what needs to shift for your heart to become a more welcoming Home for you?
Next, think of your mind as a home. Do you feel at home in your mind? Is it a place you want to go and would choose to spend time in? Is it the kind of home you would invite someone else into? Or is it a place you sometimes wish you could escape from? If so, what needs to shift in your mind - what pieces of furniture do you need to move around for your mind to become a more welcoming home?
Explore other ' homes' in your life... Think of your Body as a Home, your House as a Home, Your Family as a Home, your Work as a Home, Your circle of Friends as a Home. How do these homes make you feel? What needs to shift for these homes to become more welcoming, more peaceful, and more nourishing for you.
Reflect deeply on these homes and see what comes up for you. Move beyond them and think of other homes, like your neighbourhood, the city you live in, the country as a whole, and ultimately the world as your home. How welcome do you feel in these homes? What needs to shift in these homes for you to feel more at peace?
Most importantly, what needs to shift within you for these homes to become places you are happy to live in.
